Pilgerfahrt zu Beethoven (A pilgrimage to Beethoven) IV
Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 3 was dedicated to his teacher Joseph Haydn, and his Piano Sonata No. 6 to Countess Anna Margarete von Browne, who often welcomed him as a house guest. His No. 16 Piano Sonata is remarkable for its humorous nature. In the second movement, Beethoven is said to poke gentle fun at the Bel Canto style of Italian opera. Be that as it may, in this selection Florian Krumpöck demonstrates Beethoven’s willingness to cross boundaries, and indeed to go well beyond them – “Not just boundaries of form, harmony, and dynamics, but also the boundaries of what was then deemed possible on the piano”. Kammerschauspieler Johannes Krisch offers some illuminating insights into the composer’s dazzling personality.
