Tales from Leopoldstadt

Vienna’s 2nd Municipal District contains a host of musical surprises! Baritone Adrian Eröd, Ekaterina Frolova on violin and Andrea Linsbauer at the piano take us on a musical tour of the district. The itinerary includes Palais Augarten, where Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert all performed, the dwelling place of the young Johannes Brahms, and the Hirschenhaus (“Deer House”) in Taborstrasse, where several members of the Strauss family lived.. After a detour to visit the birthplaces of Arnold Schönberg and Alexander Zemlinsky, and a short trip to the house in the Carmelite Quarter where violin virtuoso Fritz Kreisler, our musical stroll ends in the Praterstrasse. Here, at the Carltheater on Leopoldstadt’s magnificent boulevard, Nestroy’s comic character Knieriem (alias Christoph Wagner-Trenkwitz) will make an appearance. Waltzes and extracts from operettas finally lead us to “Venedig in Wien” (Venice in Vienna) in the Wiener Prater park, where “die Bäume wieder blüh´n”. Responsibility for leading this guided tour lies in the capable hands of Christoph Wagner-Trenkwitz.
